Puppy going abroad
A Castle Pearl’s puppy may also find its home outside Finland. For puppies moving abroad, we always plan the relocation individually together with the new owner and make sure that the puppy travels safely and in accordance with all applicable regulations.
When a puppy moves permanently to a new home abroad following a sale, this may not be considered ordinary travel with a pet. Depending on the circumstances, regulations concerning the commercial movement and export of animals may apply.
In addition to the destination country, the requirements of any transit countries and those of the chosen airline or other transport provider may also need to be taken into account.
Planning Well in Advance
If a puppy is going to move abroad, we ask the buyer to inform us of the destination country already when making the reservation. This allows us to plan the puppy’s vaccinations, possible tests, veterinary appointments, documentation and travel arrangements correctly.
The requirements of the destination country may have a significant impact on the age at which the puppy can be released and travel to its new home. In some cases, preparations must begin well before the planned travel date.
The puppy will only leave once all requirements applicable to the specific journey have been fulfilled.
The puppy’s welfare always comes first, and the departure date will not be brought forward simply to accommodate travel arrangements.
The Buyer’s Responsibility
The buyer is responsible for ensuring that the dog can legally be imported into the destination country and that all requirements of the destination country and any transit countries are fulfilled.
Depending on the destination, the buyer may be responsible for arranging or obtaining, for example:
- import permits required by the destination country
- approval from the airline or other transport provider
- customs duties, taxes and other charges applicable in the destination country
- other import arrangements that are the responsibility of the recipient.
We are happy to assist with checking the requirements and preparing the puppy for travel. However, the final responsibility for fulfilling the destination country’s import requirements lies with the puppy’s recipient.
Flights or other transportation should not be booked until the current import requirements of the destination country have been confirmed.
Puppy price
The price of the puppy is €1,800 with a reservation fee of €450. Any additional costs are added to the puppy's price.
Additional Costs Related to Export
Additional costs arising from international export are not automatically included in the puppy’s purchase price.
Depending on the destination and travel arrangements, additional costs may include:
- EU Pet Passport
- rabies vaccination and any applicable waiting periods
- other vaccinations required by the destination country
- rabies antibody testing, if required
- examination by an official veterinarian
- animal health certificate
- official fees
- import permits
- parasite treatments
- an appropriate travel crate
- airline or other transport provider fees
- other costs related to export, import or transit.
The required procedures and costs always depend on the destination country and the specific travel arrangements.
Collecting Your Puppy in Finland
The puppy may also be collected personally from Finland. Collection can be arranged, for example:
- from the breeder’s home in Jämsä, or
- from the Helsinki / Helsinki-Vantaa area, if agreed in advance.
If the buyer travels to Finland to collect the puppy, the buyer is responsible for their own travel and transportation costs.
Transporting the puppy
We can transport the puppy to your new home. In this case, you also cover all the breeder's travel expenses (flights, accommodation, taxis, fuel, hotels, etc.).
We always use Finnair for flights.
- Dog transport in the cabin within the EU: €60
- Transporting a dog in the cabin from outside the EU: €120
- Transporting a dog in the hold within the EU: €140
- Transporting a dog in the hold outside the EU: €650
We make short trips abroad by car (Estonia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland).
If the breeder brings the puppy to you, we ALWAYS draw up a separate written agreement specifying the additional costs to be paid.
The cost of the puppy plus any additional expenses must always be paid before the puppy moves.
Puppy's age
Many countries require a rabies vaccination before a puppy can travel, so we recommend that the puppy be at least 15 weeks old before moving. Puppies can only move to the United States once they are 6 months old.
Remember to check your country's import requirements!
A Safe Start in the New Home
A puppy moving abroad is prepared for travel according to its age and individual needs. We also pay attention to helping the puppy travel as calmly as possible and ensuring that the transportation arrangements are suitable for the puppy.
After a long journey, the puppy should be given sufficient time to rest, settle in and become comfortable in its new home.
Although the puppy may move abroad, the breeder’s support does not end at the Finnish border. We hope to stay in touch with our puppy families and are always happy to follow the lives of our Castle Pearl’s dogs in their new home countries.
A Castle Pearl’s puppy moving abroad remains our bred-by puppy for its entire lifetime.
